Recycling harbour ropes into eco products, Underfall Yard, Bristol
Eco conscious products that represent a little bit of Bristol history and do good for people and planet.
These sustainable carabiners, crafted from ropes once used in the busy waterways, now stand as a symbol of innovation, community, and environmental stewardship.
We recycle fishing nets and ropes from around the UK coastline and had wanted to do something with Bristol's waste so we got in touch with the harbourmaster and left our details. Soon after the latest Bristol Harbour festival he reached out and said he had a couple 100kgs of ropes that were in a skip. We picked them up and recycled them into our carabiners!”
Each carabiner has been carefully designed to reflect the rich maritime heritage of Bristol while offering a practical solution for everyday use. Whether you're an adventurer, a mum who needs a handy clip for the pram, a handy keyring or just someone who loves eco-conscious products, these carabiners represent a little piece of Bristol's history.
Buying one of our products supports the continued work cleaning our coastal areas. We donated 50 units to the Underfall Yard to help fund the redevelopment after a devastating arson attack on the ancient shipyard.

"Underfall Yard is a cornerstone of Bristol's maritime legacy, and its loss was felt deeply across the community," said an Ecotribo spokesperson. "We love the waterfront and spending time around the Underfall Yard and wanted to contribute to the restoration in a way that not only supports their recovery but also gives back to the environment and the local economy. Our business has always been about people and planet so it felt like the perfect fit"
Underfall Yard, a Grade II* listed site, has been an integral part of Bristol’s harbour for centuries, and efforts are now underway to restore its historic workshops and equipment, which were sadly damaged in the fire.
Ecotribo’s new product line reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability and community, highlighting a positive cycle of reuse and regeneration. 10% of profits across their entire range goes to support coastal charities. By choosing to use materials that would otherwise go to waste, Ecotribo ensures that each purchase helps reduce the city’s and UKs environmental footprint. And by supporting Underfall Yard, the company is helping to preserve an important part of Bristol’s history for future generations.
